If you are interested in a career in healthcare, HeaRTS may be able to help you find a training program with reduced costs. And if you are in a lower income bracket, you may be eligible while you are in training for expenses directly related to training, such as books, uniforms, special fees, etc. The funds will be paid directly to the vendors or to the schools.
Before considering applying for this program, there are restrictions you must know about:
1) All healthcare trainees are subject to a background check and drug testing. You cannot have a felony, drug-related misdemeanor or violent crime on your record. If you do, check with your local Career Solution Center for other options.
2) Most training classes require at least a GED. Click on Training Opportunities on this web site and then select List of Trainers for program-specific reqirements. 3) No HeaRTS-supported training program can last more than 24 months and all training must end by December 31, 2009. 4) You have to work in a Tier Parish for 6 months, which are the parishes designated by the federal government as most affected by Katrina and Rita. They are as follows:
Acadia, Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Iberia, Jefferson, Jefferson Davis, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Terrebonne, Vermilion, and Washington.
How to use this web site
Click on Training Occupations. You will see a list of occupations for which HeaRTS is funding training. By clicking on an occupation, you will get brief information on that occupation and a list of facilities providing that training. Click on the training providers to get detailed information.
You can also go to “Calendar” to see at a glance the programs funded by HeaRTS and when and where they will take place. These programs and dates are subject to change, however.
If you don’t see a program listed you are interested in, send HeaRTS an email using the “Contact Us” page to inquire about other options. |
